About the course

You will learn about a range of specific learning difficulties, including ADHD, dyslexia and dyscalculia. It's great for people working in a variety of sectors, such as healthcare, social care and education.

This is a 12-week (approx. 120 hours) Online Self-Study qualification course. It can be started anytime and accessed (via a learning portal) at times/days to suit you.

Entry requirements

Learners must meet the following eligibility criteria to access this course:

 

  • ·  Be aged 19+ on the 31/08/2023

    ·  Live in the UK for 3 years/live in UK from EEA for 3 years, or have *pre-settlement or *Settled status from the Home Office (*proof required)

    ·  Due to Government funding criteria, we are unable to accept learners who live in London, Scotland, Wales, N Ireland, Ireland or a devolved postcode areas. Please check with us if you are unsure.

What you'll learn (core modules)

This course explores the following:

 

Unit 1: Understand Specific Learning Difficulties

In this unit you will gain an understanding of what is meant by the term 'Specific Learning Difficulty'. You will research the characteristics of different difficulties and co-occurring conditions. You will also gain an understanding of common misconceptions and how the difficulty is a lifelong condition.

 

Unit 2: Understand the effects of Specific Learning Difficulties

Throughout this unit you will gain an understanding of how Specific Learning Difficulties affect an individual's life and those of others around them. You will gain an understanding of how the attitudes of others can impact the individuals and on completion of the unit will be able to identify the strengths and barriers an individual may experience.

 

Unit 3: Understand the diagnosis of Specific Learning Difficulties

In this unit you will gain an understanding of the importance of gaining an early diagnosis and the impact of delayed or non-diagnosis. You will also investigate the diagnosis process and the professionals involved.

 

Unit 4: Understanding supporting individuals with Specific Learning Difficulties

This unit will explain how to support an individual with a Specific Learning Difficulty in a variety of settings. You will gain an understanding of different coping strategies and assistive technology that can be used as support.

 

Unit 5: Understand the context of Specific Learning Difficulties

Within this unit you will gain an understanding of how attitudes, legislation and services have evolved over time to support individuals with Specific Learning Difficulties.

 


How will I be assessed?

This qualification is assessed via an internally assessed portfolio of evidence which is submitted to your tutor using the online portal.

Where is the course delivered? (facilities/classrooms)

  • All learning is completed online at a time that suits you without the need to attend college. 
  • At the start of the course and you will be allocated a designated tutor who will support you through your qualification.

How much will it cost?

The course is fully funded and there are no associated costs with completing this course*

However if you start and not complete this course there will be a charge of £125

 

*The course is fully funded subject to the individual being over 19 and having lived in an EEA country for the last 3 years

You can only apply for one course at a time however upon completion you can enrol on a further 2 courses per academic year.
