Overview of apprenticeship
The Lead Practitioner in Adult Care will guide and inspire team members to make positive differences to someone's life when they are faced with physical, practical, social, emotional, psychological or intellectual challenges. They will have achieved a level of self-development to be recognised as a lead practitioner within the care team, contributing to, promoting and sustaining a values-based culture at an operational level. A Lead Practitioner has a greater depth of knowledge and expertise of particular conditions being experienced by the user of services. They will have specialist skills and knowledge in their area of responsibilities which will allow them to lead in areas such as care needs assessment.
A Higher Apprenticeship is a job with an accompanying skills development programme designed by employers in the sector. It allows you to gain technical knowledge and real practical experience while being paid to do so. Along with functional and personal skills that are needed for your immediate job and future career you will learn through a mix of project based learning in the workplace, formal off the job training, and the opportunity to practice and embed new skills in a real work context.
Learners will ideally be in either a senior position or in a role where they are required to carry out regular assessments. Examples of job roles:
- Re-ablement worker
- Social services officer,
- Senior worker
- Support worker,
- Occupational therapy assistant
- Telecare Assistant and Assistive Technology Coordinator/officer.

Delivery Plan and Assessment
In total, learners have to spend 20% of their time on programme completing Off-The-Job training, this includes their day release, and any shadow shifts. Apprentices will be supported by 1:1 meetings in the workplace by their dedicated Programme Tutor. Additional learning resources and information will be made available online to ensure a fully blended learning experience. All learners will be required to attend taught sessions to be delivered either in workplace or a WSC location throughout the year.
Learners will be required to complete an End Point Assessment at the end of their learning.
Where will this course take me?
As well as ensuring full competence as a Leader in Adult Care , this apprenticeship provides a foundation for potential progression as a manager/registered manager & further Apprenticeships in adult care i.e. Leader in Adult Care L5, Social Work Foundation Degree Programmes and, Teaching, Learning and Assessment qualifications.
