About the course

This qualification aims to raise your awareness of mental health and a range of mental health problems. You will gain an understanding of prevalent mental health problems and how you can then work with or interact with individuals with them.

 

This is a 12-week (approx. 120 hours) Online Self-Study qualification course. It can be started anytime and accessed (via a learning portal) at times/days to suit you.

Entry requirements

Learners must meet the following eligibility criteria in order to access this course:

 

  • ·  Be aged 19+ on the 31/08/2023

    ·  Live in the UK for 3 years/live in UK from EEA for 3 years, or have *pre-settlement or *Settled status from the Home Office (*proof required)

    ·  Due to Government funding criteria, we are unable to accept learners who live in London, Scotland, Wales, N Ireland, Ireland or a devolved postcode areas. Please check with us if you are unsure.

What you'll learn (core modules)

This course explores the following:

 

Unit 1: Understanding mental health

You will be introduced to a range of prevalent mental health problems and their effects, and will learn about the importance of caring for people with these conditions as individuals.

 

Unit 2: Understanding stress

You will gain an understanding of the many causes and effects of stress and how it can affect individuals in their day-to-day lives.

 

Unit 3: Understanding anxiety

You will discover how anxiety can affect individuals and those around them, as well as how it can be managed.

 

Unit 4: Understanding phobias

This unit will introduce you to the ways in which phobias can affect individuals, as well as methods for managing the condition.

 

Unit 5: Understanding depression

This unit covers the causes and effects of depression on individuals and those around them. You will gain an in-depth knowledge of how depression can be managed.

 

Unit 6: Understanding post-natal depression

In this unit you will learn what is meant by the term 'postnatal depression'. You will look into how postnatal depression not only affects women, but the effect it can have on others around them.

 

Unit 7: Understanding bipolar disorder

This unit will give learners an understanding of bipolar disorder, its causes and the effects it can have on individuals and their daily lives. You will also gain an understanding of ways in which bipolar disorder can be managed.

 

Unit 8: Understanding schizophrenia

You will discover what schizophrenia is and how it can affect individuals in their day-to-day lives, as well as explore people's perceptions of this condition due to its representation in the media.

 

Unit 9: Understanding dementia

This increasingly prevalent condition is explored in this unit by looking at how different types affect individuals in different ways. You will also gain an understanding of the ways in which this condition can affect others around the individual.

 

Unit 10: Understanding eating disorders

This unit will give you a comprehensive insight into the different types of eating disorders and their effects on individuals and others around them.

 

Unit 11: Understanding attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)

You will gain an understanding of the effects of ADHD, as well as ways in which it can be managed.

 

Unit 12: Understanding Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

You will discover the potential causes of OCD and the effects it can have on individuals and those around them. You will also explore some of the ways in which OCD can be managed.

 

Unit 13: Understanding Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

In this final unit, you will gain an in-depth understanding of the many causes of PTSD, as well as the effects on both individuals and those around them. Learners will also explore the different ways of managing the condition.

How will I be assessed?

This qualification is assessed via an internally assessed portfolio of evidence which is submitted to your tutor using the online portal.

Where is the course delivered? (facilities/classrooms)

  • All learning is completed online at a time that suits you without the need to attend college. 
  • At the start of the course and you will be allocated a designated tutor who will support you through your qualification.

How much will it cost?

The course is fully funded and there are no associated costs with completing this course*

However if you start and not complete this course there will be a charge of £125

 

*The course is fully funded subject to the individual being over 19 and having lived in an EEA country for the last 3 years

Once these are approved, we will send information on how to access the learning portal.

You can only apply for one course at a time however upon completion you can enrol on a further 2 courses per academic year.
