Overview of apprenticeship

An advanced beauty therapist can be employed within the beauty industry, travel, leisure and health sectors, in a variety of salons, spas and aesthetic environments. The broad purpose of this occupation is to provide, design and implement bespoke treatment plans. These advanced treatments range from advanced manual therapies such as advanced massage techniques, technical therapies such as face and body electrical treatments, to meet and manage client needs and expectations.

Delivery Plan and Assessment

Apprentices will typically spend 18 months on-programme working towards the occupational standard/diploma, with a minimum of 20% off-the-job training.

 

Apprentices must spend a minimum of 12 months on-programme, in the Learning Period. 

 

Apprentices will attend college 1.5 days a week, for approx. 8 months, allowing early completion of delivery and assessment  of qualification standards, this will enable students to contribute to the salon business at the earliest opportunity.

 

Students will be assigned to a Programme Tutor who's primary responsibility is to support, coach and mentor you through your programme of learning for the duration of your 'Learning Period'. The PT along with your employer will assist to prepare you for the End Point Assessment, Final Knowledge Test and Professional Discussion.

 

There are 15 technologies to be studied and performed: 

advanced facial technical (electrical or mechanical) therapy using all of the following current applications:  ? Galvanic ? micro-current ? microdermabrasion ? low intensity LED light (below 500mW) ? skin warming devices ? high/radio frequency (range 3khz- 300GHz (including high frequency 3khz -30mhz) ? lymphatic drainage equipment.

advanced body technical (electrical or mechanical) therapy using all of the following current applications: ? Galvanic ? micro-current ? microdermabrasion ? low intensity LED light (below 500mW)? skin warming devices ? high/radio frequency (range 3khz- 300GHz (including high frequency 3khz -30mhz) ? electrical muscle stimulation ? lymphatic drainage equipment.

 

Students will gather evidence sources and may include:

1. workplace documentation/records, for example workplace policies/procedures, records. 2. witness statements. 3. digital images. 4. digital video clips.

 

The EPA must be completed within 3 months of the end of the Learning Period. 

The EPA consists of 3 discrete assessment methods:

Assessment method 1: Knowledge Test

Assessment method 2: Observation & Technology Demonstration

Assessment method 3: Professional Discussion

 

Where will this course take me?

Fully qualified in the Beauty Therapy industry.  A chance to progress into management or owning own salon.

This qualification will enable you to further your career, offering specialised treatments, allowing you to study broader skills at a higher level. Level 3 qualifications attract UCAS points enabling progression into degree level qualifications and business management.

 

Successful completion of this qualification will enable you to;

  •  complete advanced consultations.
  • design, implement and perform advanced bespoke manual therapies on the face, scalp and body.
  •  design, implement and perform advanced facial technical (electrical or mechanical) therapy treatments, singularly or as a course of treatments, to meet the objectives of bespoke treatment plans, to improve facial skin condition, improve and maintain facial contour and muscle condition and increase lymphatic drainage. 
  • design, implement and perform advanced body technical (electrical or mechanical) therapy treatments, singularly or as a course of treatments, to meet the objectives of bespoke treatment plans, to improve body skin condition, improve body contour and muscle condition and increase lymphatic drainage
  • provide post treatment aftercare and product advice for advanced manual and technical therapies.
  • promote sales and additional services to enhance the customer experience and overall treatment results, contributing to the financial viability and effectiveness of the business.
  • perform and implement risk assessment protocols in relation to the environment, treatments and client risk.
  • apply and implement organisational operations, salon business systems and processes.
  • supervise individual and team activities.

 

Entry requirements

Apprentices without Grade 4 GCSE or Level 2 Functional Skills English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the End-Point Assessment.  Level 3 Apprentice students will need to have completed a Level 2 Beauty Therapy Diploma qualification within the last 5 years.

 

Apprentices will need to be willing to commit to personal study alongside their work hours. You will also need a commitment to practising technical skills under the mentorship of both employers and  college programme tutors. 

 

In their daily work, an employee in this occupation interacts with a number of internal (e.g. other members of staff) and external (e.g. product brand, manufacturer representatives and other professionals) individuals, building exemplary relationships based on trust with clients, colleagues and organisations.

An employee in this occupation will be responsible for working independently delivering treatments in a private, secure and safe environment. An advanced beauty therapist will also when required, supervise others to support team and business growth.

How is this funded?

Apprentices are employed by business and there are no charges to the student for this qualification.
