This course provides a recognised route to higher education courses for Physiotherapy, Radiography, Paramedic Science, Speech and Language Therapy and other science-based health care programmes. It may also lead to higher education degree courses in areas such as Operating Department Practice and Biomedical Science.

Whilst there are no formal academic requirements for this course, a Level 2 qualification in English and Maths is advisable and will be required for entrance to university. Find out more about Maths and English qualifications offered at the college.

Timetabled days

Tuesday and Wednesday from 9am to 5pm.

What the course includes

A number of different assessments are used on the Access course. These include presentations; research reports; exams; an e-portfolio of Higher Education Study Skills and an Independent Research Project. These assessments will develop your academic skills in line with university expectations ensuring a smooth transition into degree level study programmes.

The subjects you will study include:  

  • Physiology (15 credits) 
  • Biochemistry (9 credits)
  • Physics (9 credits) 
  • Project (9 credits) 
  • Statistics L3 (3 credits) 
  • Study Skills (6 credits) 
  • Maths L2 (6 credits) 
  • Physiology Key Concepts (3 credits)

The Access to Science course opens a wide range of degree opportunities such Physiotherapy, Radiography, Biomedical Science, Paramedic Science, Speech and Language Therapy and many other science-based health care programmes.
