Overview of course

There are various start dates during the academic year. Attendance is required at a training day / induction, after which all other learning and assessment is arranged on an individual basis.

The start dates for the 2024/25 academic year are Wednesday 18 September 2024 and Monday 10 March 2025 at West Suffolk College in Bury St Edmunds.

 

This 12 credit award comprises 2 units – one knowledge unit covering the principles and processes of internal quality assurance and a performance unit in which you demonstrate your competence to practice to national standards for quality assurance. To achieve this qualification you need to be in a quality assurance role, whether this involves quality assuring accredited or non-accredited learning. You will need to have responsibility for monitoring and developing the practice of at least two assessors and carrying out standardisation activities for assessors. It is usually assessed through observation, examination of of work products, questions, assignments and professional discussion. You are given up to 15 months to complete this qualification but most people complete it within a year.

 

Entry requirements

There are no formal academic entry requirements but you must have arrangements before the course starts to have assessors to monitor.

Further course detail

This programmes starts with a group induction and training day at West Suffolk College or online, then all other learning and assessment is arranged on a one-to-one basis. There are usually two start dates per academic year. We will be delivering each programme through a blended approach with a combination of face to face and virtual delivery: the specific arrangements will be notified to you before you enrol on the programme. However, the nature of the qualifications requires that the quality assurance you carry out includes face to face work with assessors: practitioners whose work is exclusively online will not meet be able to meet the evidence requirements of the Awarding Organisation and sector for these qualifications in their present form.

Will I have to provide anything?

You will need to have arrangements in place to be able to quality assure the work of two assessors, each of whom have responsibility for at least two learners.
