A young apprentice working at the James Paget University Hospital has received recognition from West Suffolk College to mark the NHS 70th birthday celebrations.

As part of activities to mark the special birthday, and to highlight the important role the NHS plays in providing apprenticeship opportunities, West Suffolk College decided recognise their 70th enrolled NHS apprentice in 2018.

The lucky apprentice chosen was Hollie Raine, who is currently completing a one-year Intermediate Apprenticeship in Health Support Services at the James Paget University Hospital, and earlier today Workbased Learning Coordinator Cathy Carr, from the College, visited Ward 3 at the hospital to surprise Hollie with a bouquet of flowers and a card.

Cathy said; “We thought it would be nice to recognise our 70th apprentice to mark the NHS’ 70th birthday and Hollie was the 70th to be enrolled. We’re delighted to celebrate her contribution to the NHS.”

After applying for the apprenticeship via the NHS Jobs site last year, Hollie says she is keen to continue her career at the James Paget. “The team at West Suffolk have been very supportive – checking everything is OK all the time - and I really want to stay here after I complete my apprenticeship, perhaps become a health care assistant or working towards becoming a nurse.”

West Suffolk College and the James Paget offer a number of health care apprenticeships. For more information, take a look at our healthcare apprenticeships or www.jpaget.nhs.uk.
