Overview of apprenticeship

An Advanced Apprenticeship is a job with an accompanying skills development programme. It enables apprentices to develop specialist knowledge alongside valuable workplace experience while earning a salary. Through a blend of project-based learning, workplace activities and one-to-one support from a dedicated Programme Tutor, apprentices develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to become successful recruitment professionals.

Recruiters play a vital role in helping organisations attract, assess and appoint the right people to meet current and future workforce needs. They manage the end-to-end recruitment process, working closely with hiring managers, candidates and other stakeholders to identify recruitment requirements, source suitable applicants, coordinate selection activities and support successful onboarding.

Throughout the apprenticeship, learners will develop expertise in candidate attraction, recruitment marketing, interviewing, assessment techniques, employment legislation, equality, diversity and inclusion, customer service, relationship management and the effective use of recruitment technologies. Apprentices will also gain valuable commercial awareness, learning how recruitment contributes to organisational performance and workforce planning across a wide range of industries.

Delivery Plan and Assessment

Apprentices must spend a minimum of 20% of their contracted working hours completing off-the-job training. This includes structured learning activities such as project work, workplace training, independent study, taught sessions and coaching.

Each apprentice is supported by a dedicated Programme Tutor through regular workplace reviews, coaching sessions and progress meetings. Learning is delivered through a blended approach using online learning, practical workplace activities and employer-led projects, enabling apprentices to apply their knowledge and skills directly within their recruitment role.

Towards the end of the programme, apprentices will complete an independent End Point Assessment (EPA), consisting of a presentation with questions and a professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence, demonstrating occupational competence against the apprenticeship standard.

The apprenticeship also provides a progression route onto higher-level apprenticeships and professional development within recruitment, human resources or people management.

Down to business, what can I do and what can I earn?

Your wage is decided by your employer however must meet the National Minimum Wage regulations https://www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage-rates. 

Recruiters are employed across a wide variety of organisations, including specialist recruitment agencies, in-house recruitment teams, public sector organisations, healthcare providers, education providers, engineering and manufacturing businesses, financial services, technology companies and many other sectors.

As your experience develops, opportunities often arise to specialise in particular industries, executive recruitment, talent acquisition or recruitment management.

Entry requirements

Whilst any entry requirements will be a matter for individual employers, typically an apprentice might be expected to have already achieved 5 GCSEs including Maths and English, Grade C or above or 4/5 (new grading). Some employers will accept other relevant qualifications and experience, including a relevant Level 2 qualification.

Apprentices without English and Maths at Level 2 must achieve these prior to taking their End Point Assessment.

Qualifications

On successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will achieve:

• Recruiter Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard.
• Skills for Success – West Suffolk College's employability and professional behaviours programme.
• Functional Skills in English and/or Maths where required.

How is this funded?

Learners

Apprentices are not required to contribute financially towards Apprenticeship training. 

Employers

If you are an employer with an annual wage bill of £3 million or more, you will pay into an apprenticeship levy. This levy is then used to pay for the training element of the apprenticeship course. 

The total figure for the Apprenticeship is negotiated before enrolment and once confirmed will be taken in monthly payments from your account directly to us or paid to us via invoice should additional fees be required.

If you are an employer with an annual wage bill of under £3 million, the Government will fund 95% of the training fee meaning you will be required to contribute 5%.  You may be required to contribute additional fees which we will invoice the company for.  The additional fees will be made known and negotiated prior to the Apprentice enrolment.

There are additional incentives available if you are a small employer (under 50) and if you train/recruit a 16-18 year old or 19-24 year old with an Education Health and Care Plan.
