About the course
The Prevent Duty is a vital aspect of safeguarding in today's society, aiming to protect individuals from being drawn into terrorism and extremism.
Our online course on the Prevent Duty and Radicalisation Awareness is designed to help education providers understand the importance of Prevent, the risks associated with radicalisation, and how to keep individuals safe from harmful influences.
The course explores key areas including the aims of the Prevent Duty, the warning signs of radicalisation, and how to identify and respond to potential threats.
By completing this course, your learners will gain the knowledge needed to ensure a safe and secure environment for all individuals and effectively fulfill their responsibilities under the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015.
Entry requirements
- Be aged 19+ on the 31/08/2025
- Learners must be a UK resident and legally living in the UK on the first day of learning.(proof required)
- Due to Government funding criteria, we are unable to accept learners who live in London, Scotland, Wales, N Ireland, Ireland or a devolved postcode areas. Please check with us if you are unsure.

- The Prevent duty and its aims
- Why the Prevent duty is necessary
- The threat of terrorism
- The main points of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 which relate to Prevent
- Radicalisation, terrorism and extremism
- Factors which make individuals susceptible to radicalisation
- Pull factors for radicalisation
- Warning signs that an individual may be becoming radicalised
- Warning signs of radicalisation in children, young people and adults
- Internal factors relating to radicalisation
- Run, Hide, Tell campaign
- External factors relating to radicalisation
- The legal requirements made for organisational bodies regarding individuals who may be radicalised
- Prevent duties of further and higher education institutions, the police, local authorities, schools and registered childcare providers, healthcare providers and the criminal justice system
- Actions that should be taken if there are concerns that a vulnerable individual or group may be at risk from radicalisation
- The Channel programme
- The need for agencies to share information in relation to concerns about individuals at risk of harm
- Methods that extremist groups use to encourage people to adopt their beliefs and/or engage in criminal activity on their behalf
- Radicalisation in person and online
- Examples of ways in which extremist groups engage in criminal activity and acts of terror which have been carried out

This course is a fully online, self-directed, independent study course. Students must have use of a laptop to complete this course and must meet the eligibility criteria.
