About the course

Whether you are looking for an online dementia course for personal or professional reasons, or are looking for dementia awareness training for staff, this course is relevant for anyone interested in dementia care. Our CPD Dementia Awareness course is designed to provide the basic knowledge needed to raise awareness and care for people with dementia. This includes the symptoms of dementia, the different types of dementia, behaviours, causes, and more.

Entry requirements

  • Be aged 19+ on the 31/08/2025
  • Learners must be a UK resident and legally living in the UK on the first day of learning.(proof required)
  • Due to Government funding criteria, we are unable to accept learners who live in London, Scotland, Wales, N Ireland, Ireland or a devolved postcode areas. Please check with us if you are unsure.

What you'll learn (core modules)

Section 1: Understanding what dementia is

Build an understanding of what dementia is, the key functions of the brain that are affected by it and why other conditions may be mistaken for dementia.

Section 2: Understanding key features of theoretical models of dementia

Learn how to accurately identify models of dementia within health and social care and understand dementia as a disability.

Section 3: Know the most common types of dementia and their causes

Discover the most common causes of dementia, the signs and symptoms of these, and the risk factors. Learn how to identify the prevalence rates for different types of dementia.

Section 4: Understanding factors relating to an individual's experience of dementia

Covers how different individuals may experience living with dementia depending on age, type of dementia and level of ability and disability. Learn about the impact that the attitudes and behaviours of others may have on an individual with dementia.

This self-study bite-sized course is interactive and flexible giving you the ability to study at your convenience at a time and day suitable to you.

 

This course is a fully online, self-directed, independent study course. Students must have use of a laptop to complete this course and must meet the eligibility criteria.
