Is it for me?
This Level 3 study programme builds on students' knowledge, understanding, and skills in applied science, with a strong emphasis on practical techniques. It is designed for learners interested in careers that require a solid foundation in scientific principles and hands-on laboratory experience.
This course is ideal if you want to strengthen your understanding of core sciences and prepare for future study or careers in fields such as paramedic science, nursing, laboratory science, environmental studies, or ecological engineering.
The applied nature of the programme helps you develop industry-ready skills across all three science disciplines. You will also enhance your ability to solve problems, think analytically, conduct research, and communicate effectively.
The Health Science, Biomedical sector is thriving and is expected to create 50,000 jobs in the next five years, so the opportunities in this exciting and innovative field of applied science are practically endless.
By completing this course, you will gain a formal science qualifications that is equivalent to two A Levels and is recognised by universities as well as industry. It provides you with a pathway to numerous progression courses into higher education through foundation year as well as apprenticeships and employment. The course is open to those progressing from a relevant Level 2 qualification, or GCSEs.
Delivered in our state-of-the-art laboratories, you will learn how to work effectively and practice advanced scientific skills. In addition to the practical skills you will develop, you will also improve your employability through the enhancement of your communication, numeracy and information technology abilities.
Students wishing to take a Three A level qualification in Applied Sciences should apply for the T level Science.

Equipment required for the course
You may borrow a laboratory coat and goggles for the duration of your course. Students are welcome to purchase their own if they prefer. A laptop would be beneficial but is not essential.
Work experience placements
Students are expected to complete 50 hours of work experience each year, we have connections with local companies and the NHS where you may choose to gain the industry experience to help you to develop your career interests and choose your next steps.
Assessment
Assessment is 50% exams and 50% coursework. Exams are spread throughout the two years.
Further study
The course can lead to many degree courses and professional qualifications. Previous students have gone on to study Biomedical Science, Biology, Marine Biology, Paramedic Science, Veterinary Science, Zoology, Biochemistry and Environmental Science. Please note as this is 2 A level option students are likely to require a foundation year at university.
