About the course
The mental health crisis is becoming increasingly prevalent in the UK, with 1 in 4 adults experiencing a mental health problem every year.
The Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health is designed to provide a greater awareness of mental health issues and the importance of mental well-being.
Learners will build a knowledge base that can be used in a variety of occupational roles, gaining an understanding of the skills needed to work in mental health services, the importance of addressing mental health problems, and how legislation and publicity are changing attitudes towards those seeking treatment

What you'll learn (core modules)
This qualification will focus on a key core of knowledge and understanding, to improve and promote a thorough comprehension of mental health and mental well-being.
You will look at:
- Mental ill health, associated issues and the potential consequences of mental ill health.
- Treatment options available .
- Mental health legislation and mental health services.
- Public attitudes and how these have evolved.
- An understanding of how to support mental well-being through various stages of life.
- The skills required to work in a mental health service.
How will I be assessed?
The course includes online learning materials in the form of interactive resources and flipbooks, a personalised login to access the online learning portal will be given on enrolment.
You will be required to work through a series of tasks and activities designed to reinforce the learning process and demonstrate your knowledge. Your personal tutor will then assess your work and provide you with constructive feedback for each unit.
Where is the course delivered? (facilities/classrooms)
All learning will be online (self-study) and can be completed at a time that suits without the need to attend college. Dedicated tutors will provide written feedback on the assessments and ongoing remote support where required.

How much will it cost?
You may be eligible for government funding if:
- You are aged 19+
- You live in the UK
- You are employed but earning less than £25,750 per annum (or £30,491 if you live in a CB/PE postcode)
OR
- you are in receipt of certain benefits
If you are not eligible for funding, the course fee would be payable. This can be paid in instalments, paid via invoice by an employer or you can apply for an Advance Learner Loan personally.
