Zak Baldwin, 17 from Cheveley in Suffolk won the construction and building services apprentice of the year.
The Godfrey and Hicks Builders Ltd employee, started on an apprenticeship with the Fordham based firm straight from school.
Zak ‘fell in love’ with woodwork thanks to his dad’s passion for building and the fact he studied on a construction GCSE at school.
In terms of choosing this study path Zak said: “I really like the freedom of working and learning, you are in a grown up environment, you take responsibility for everything you do and it starts you off in the working world straight away.
The talented sports person swims for Suffolk and he believes his relationship with the college has gone swimmingly. He said: “The college has given me loads of support – they have played a massive part in helping me get through this. When I got the message I received the award I received loads of messages from my boss and colleagues saying congratulations.
“Long term – if things continue to go well here I would like to become a site agent - that would be a dream come true.”
