Explore sources of income, how money can be received, and payments can be made.  Review examples of expenditure, as well as methods of recording income and expenditure and the problems which may occur if expenditure is greater than income.

Learn about ways of reducing expenditure.  The products offered by banks and building societies and the advantages and disadvantages of different types of accounts.  You will also cover the advantages, disadvantages and costs of borrowing money.

The Course will run once a week for 3 hours plus homework.  There will be breaks in line with school holidays.

Evening Classes

   

 

We offer classes to suit those who prefer to study in-class on a weekly basis.  These classes run for 16 weeks (term-time only) and each class is 3 hours in duration (with the examinations taking place at the end of the course).

 

For those unable to attend our classroom sessions, we also offer online classes:

Fully Online Classes

 

 

The fully online course is designed for students wishing to achieve a functional skills qualification without the requirement of attending a face to face class. These courses run for 12 weeks and can be studied from the comfort of your own home, however will require you to have access to, and the ability to use a digital device such as a computer, laptop. or tablet with access to the Microsoft Teams application via the internet (the examinations will take place at your nearest West Suffolk College Community and Business Centre).

Face to Face Classes

Our face to face classes suit those who prefer to study in-class on a weekly basis and are available during the day and in the evening. These classes run for 16 weeks (term time only) and each is 3 hours in duration. Induction, 14 weeks of teaching and an examination at the end of the course on week 16.

 

For those that are not able to study in a classroom we also offer

 

Fully Online Classes

 

The fully online course is designed for students wishing to achieve a functional skills qualification without the requirement of attending a face to face class. West Suffolk College in Ipswich will be offering a 1-week intensive Functional Skills Maths Summer School for adult learners (Dates TBC)

 

This is an intensive 1 week Functional skills Maths class, for learners to take their L1 or L2 in a week.  The class runs Monday - Friday 9.30-4.30pm daily.  You will be required to attend all 5 days and the computer based exam will take place on the following Monday.

We appreciate the intensive approach does not work for everyone which is why we have weekly classes which start again in September, either face to face or online.

On Wednesday 18th September 2024 we shall be starting a brand new FS Maths class for those ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Students that are currently studying or who are already at L1 or L2 English level. The class will run on a Wednesday evening from 6 - 9pm. If you are interested in joining this class please click on the link above to register via email.

This course is designed for students wishing to achieve a Functional skills qualification without travelling to a learning centre.  The lesson takes place at a set time each week within a virtual classroom.

 

You will access a range of material via an online platform (MS Teams) and attend live tutored sessions delivered by your tutor to small groups. All delivery will be online. The tutor will use a variety of teaching methods including explanation and discussion, as well as group and individual activities.

 

Homework will need to be uploaded to MS Teams for marking on a weekly basis.

 

If you are wishing to join one of our Online Maths & English classes, then you need to ensure you meet the criteria for Remote Invigilated exams.

 

·        Stable internet connection

·        Laptop or PC with working webcam, speakers, and microphone

·        A second device which has the Proctor Exam App installed
