About the course
This course will enable you to begin your journey into the world of flowers and floristry. You will learn the essentials in the industry while exploring techniques for creating some unique floral designs.
The floristry course includes a mix of theory and hands?on practical sessions. During practical weeks, you may work independently or with a partner, depending on the activity. Flowers are provided to support learning in class, and on some occassions you may be able to take your work home. This will depend on the activity and will be explained by your tutor at the time.
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements to take part in this course. A basic level of English & maths is required.
What you'll learn (core modules)
The course is made up of two units.
Unit 201 - Safe and effective working practices in the land-based industries
Assessment type: Online Multiple Choice
In this unit, learners will be able to:
- Select, use, maintain and store equipment, tools and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Follow safe working practices
- Follow emergency procedures
- Maintain a safe and tidy work environment
Unit 215 - Assemble basic floral designs:
The aim of this unit is to provide the learner with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to communicate information within the workplace.
In this unit, learners will be able to:
- Construct basic designs
- Recognise gift wrapping materials and ancillary items

Tied:
- Cone wrap
- Limited tied design in a vase
- Tied posy
Mediums:
- Posy pad
- Line arrangement
- Basket arrangement
Wired:
- Buttonhole
- Wired head circlet
- Posy corsage
Glued:
- Glued corsage badge
- Alice band
- Wristlet
How will I be assessed?
This course contains practical assessments as well as written assessments.
There is an online safety exam which is completed in lesson as part of Unit 201.

Where will this course take me?
This qualification aims to enable learners to develop basic skills in flower arranging craft. It will provide learners with underpinning knowledge of the craft process and basis for progression into further study in floristry.
On the course, the learners will learn how to use materials, tools and equipment correctly and safely while gradually developing a portfolio of their flower arranging designs.
There are opportunities to progress with a Level 2 Floristry Certificate following this course. We also run regular floristry workshops to learn specific skills.
How much will it cost?
Full funding is available subject to meeting the eligibility criteria:
- Living in the UK
- Employed and earning less than £25,750 (or £30,491 if you live in certain CB/PE postcodes) OR
- Unemployed
If you do not meet the eligibility criteria, there is a course fee of £495*.
This fee will cover all costs associated for the duration of the course, including flowers and materials. You are required to provide your own apron & table covering.
