This course is suitable for those seeking to work
professionally in the Early Years sector, providing a valuable foundation for
progression onto university degree courses or employment. This course is an
excellent choice for students interested in Early Years careers - primary
school teaching, pre-school nursery teacher, nanny, au pair and so on. The course is equivalent to 3 A levels.
One of the huge benefits of studying a childcare course at
college is the professional qualifications of all the teaching staff. The
course is delivered by Early Years managers, primary teachers, nursery nurses, health visitors and other teachers who are
professionally qualified in their field e.g. social work or additional needs
specialist teachers. Students gain an excellent understanding of the
professional values of the sector because all of our tutors have worked within
the childcare industry.
A compulsory part of
the course is work placement and you will need to complete in the region of 400
hours per year to pass the course. Work placement is organised by the work
placement team. It is a full time course. You attend college three days per
week and the other two days are out in placement. You will get the opportunity
to work in a variety of child care settings.
The teaching for the qualification will be online, you will receive two 3-hour sessions once per month with an allocated programme tutor who will support you through your qualification.
You will need to be able to embed your knowledge into a real-life working environment to gain the knowledge and skills to work within the childcare sector. You will need to be able to complete 16 hours per week voluntary or paid in a childcare setting.
T-Levels are qualifications which will follow GCSEs and Technical Awards and offer an attractive alternative to A Levels and apprenticeships. Each qualification lasts two years and is equivalent to three A-Levels. T Levels will combine classroom theory, practical learning and a minimum 45-day industry placement with an employer to make sure you have real experience of the workplace.
Our T Level in Education and Childcare allows you to develop your knowledge and understanding of a broad range of topics such as, child development, safeguarding and special educational needs all of which are essential elements to master for a successful career in the field. Alongside this, you will also learn about the role of the family and various support agencies. Education and Childcare is a diverse and fascinating subject - you'll be able to delve into the specifics of social interaction, how language is acquired and understanding behaviour. You'll also build your skills in becoming a reflective practitioner with an understanding of the broader context of education. You'll then be able to choose a specialism that is designed to support your interests and ambitions and enable you to progress in a specific area. This is where you can get deeper into your chosen subject, developing and practising the skills needed for your chosen career, higher apprenticeship, or degree.
As part of this T Level programme, you need to complete an industry work placement in an Early Years setting where you will gain hands on experience in working within the sector, allowing you to put theory into practice and apply the knowledge that has been gained.
