BE NICE SOCIALPictured: Sarah Howard MBE, Governor of West Suffolk College Corporation and Trustee of Suffolk Academies Trust since 2016, begins her new post as Chair of British Chambers with immediate effect after holding the role of vice-chair for two years.

Our very own Governor Sarah Howard MBE, has made history as the first woman and first businessperson from Suffolk to be elected as the chair of the British Chambers of Commerce.

Sarah who has been a Governor of West Suffolk College Corporation and Trustee of Suffolk Academies Trust since 2016, begins her new post with immediate effect after holding the role of vice-chair for two years.

Sarah became a Governor due to her passion for identifying opportunities for young people in the region. Sarah herself said: “Every young person has something they are good at they just need to find their place and I believe West Suffolk College does an amazing job of helping them identify this.”

When asked about her new appointment Sarah explained: “This is a great honour for me and I’m looking forward to helping the BCC team as they represent the views of the country’s wealth creators and risk takers. In particular, I am keen to work with our 53 accredited chambers to help ensure that workers, whether they be just out of school or college or who are more experienced staff, have the skills and support needed to contribute to businesses’ longer-term growth plans.”

Dr Nikos Savvas, Principal of West Suffolk College and Chief Executive of Suffolk Academies Trust said: “Sarah is an outstanding Governor and Trustee. She has incredible experience, business knowledge and acumen, and understands acutely the need for business to be fully engaged with education at all levels. The whole organisation offers their warmest congratulations to Sarah on her momentous and historical appointment to chair of the British Chamber of Commerce, it is a very deserving recognition of her experience and professional excellence.”
