The University of Suffolk History degrees have been ranked second in the country according to the Guardian University Guide 2020.
The Guide features a league table of all the universities in the UK, and includes tables of each of the subject areas.
The ranking takes into account the BA (Hons) English and History degree that is delivered at West Suffolk College. It is one of four University of Suffolk degrees to cumulatively attribute to the successful ranking; the others are BA (Hons) History, BA (Hons) History and Sociology, and BA (Hons) Politics and History.
The University of Suffolk degrees, received outstanding marks for the high staff to student ratio, the academic spend per head of students and the value-added score, which compares students’ degree results with their entry qualifications, to show how effectively they are taught. The survey was completed by final-year students in the latest National Student Survey (NSS).
Dr Radojka Startup Senior Lecturer in History said, ‘History at University of Suffolk at West Suffolk College has always recruited passionate, independent and enquiring students. As a team we are honoured to offer our students an equally passionate and stimulating curriculum to meet their educational needs and career aspirations. I am proud but not surprised our history degree course has achieved such a high accolade; we strive to provide academic excellence within a supportive and nurturing environment never losing sight of the individual’.
Level 6 student Emily Wright said, “It’s a fantastic achievement but I’m also not surprised. The University of Suffolk History degree taught at West Suffolk College is a fascinating and in depth course and the lecturers have been amazing throughout”.
Tegan Locke, Head of Higher Education at Degree Studies at West Suffolk College said:
“We have a dedicated and focused team of staff, who really care for all our students. Our class sizes are deliberately kept small, so we have time to focus on all of our student’s needs and requirements and we purposely make the environment mature and focused, so young and older students all feel comfortable. This culture, space and the contact time between lecturer and students, allows our students to flourish. Last year over 81% of our students graduated with a 2:1 or 1st and satisfaction across the board is exceptionally high.
We are still accepting applications for this course for start this September.
