Additional info

There’s been an exciting new arrival at West Suffolk College.

We’re now the proud hosts of one of Trovr’s groundbreaking new reverse vending machines. We’ve teamed up with West Suffolk Council to take part in a six-month trial which has delivered four reverse vending machines across the region; two in Newmarket and two in Bury St Edmunds.

The premise is simple: you can turn your rubbish into rewards by recycling single-use drinks containers (i.e. bottles and cans) via the machine, which can be found at the Bistro at West Suffolk College. You’ll then receive points through the Trovr app which can be used to make purchases with popular national retailers, as well as local businesses.

As one of only four sites in the whole of the UK to host one of these revolutionary machines, we couldn’t be more thrilled to be taking part in this exciting new initiative. We’re extremely proud of our sustainability efforts across the Eastern Education Group, and the reverse vending machine scheme goes hand-in-hand with our goal to make all of our sites as ‘green’ as possible, among other strategic aims in our Green Skills Project.

West Suffolk College Governor, and Green Party councillor for Abbeygate ward in Bury St Edmunds, using the machine

Julia Wakelam, West Suffolk College Governor and District Councillor, played an instrumental role in getting this scheme off the ground:

“As a Governor of the College, I am excited by this project & delighted that Trovr, working with West Suffolk Council, has chosen the College as one of the first places in England to launch this project.

“We know that recycling valuable materials such as aluminium and tin is an important part of our fight to preserve our environment and halt climate change, but people have busy lives and it’s all too easy to forget this and put our cans and bottles in the black bin. The Trovr app will remind and reward us for not forgetting - win win! Another step along the path to sustainability.”
