Guild of Bricklayers Competition

West Suffolk College is delighted to be hosting the East Anglian heat of the Guild of Bricklayers Craft Competition.

The Guild of Bricklayers is a National Competition for Bricklaying Students. Culminating in a Final at South Staffordshire College.

This is held of two categories, Juniors and Seniors. Students have five and six hours respectively to complete a brickwork model set by The Guild.

The winner of each category then qualifies for the final. This gives them the opportunity to compete against the best students in the country on June 22nd 2022.

"Construction, and bricklaying in particular, is of vital importance, not only for West Suffolk College but for the region and our country as a whole," said Dr Nikos Savvas, Eastern Colleges Group CEO. "It is a complex and impressive craft, without which we would not be able to grow and thrive. We take the effective training very seriously, and are therefore extremely proud to be hosting East Anglia's heat of this important national competition. Events such as these are key in enriching the education of our students and apprentice, inspiring and encouraging them to strive to reach their full potential."

Bill Bowman, President of the Guild of Bricklayers, added: "Competitions are a long standing tradition within the Guild of Bricklayers, dating back over 40 years and the craft, skills and knowledge has been clearly demonstrated at these events.

"Our gratitude must also be given to our sponsors for this event including Wienerberger Ltd for supplying the bricks, MPA (Mineral Products Association) for providing the mortar, making all these events possible. I would also like to thank OX tools and Tilgear who have supported our competitions. I would like to take this opportunity to express the Guil's thanks and apprenticiation for their continued support."

If you are interested in bricklaying, apply for a course starting this September.
