Level 3

In year 1, learners are exposed to a range of business principles which include  law, economics, marketing, finance,  and events management alongside psychology.  When progressing to year 2, learners have the opportunity to build on the foundations established in year 1and take a more specialist pathway in law and psychology.  

 

During the course, you will understand how law and psychology are linked as psychology seeks to understand human behaviour and law seeks to regulate human behaviour.  To fully appreciate  business law and psychology, you need to get out there.  You will meet with successful business speakers, business organisations and industry specialists. Visits will be linked to your course criteria, allowing you to gaining valuable insight into the running of real businesses, working in the legal system and with the skills established through psychology study to understand the the needs of your clients and of other parties involved in the legal system.  Throughout the course you will be supported by staff who have real life experience and a true passion for industry. Delivery strategies will include real life project-based scenarios involving industry 'clients', national competitions and challenges.

 

Whatever your long term goals may be, this course will equip you with the fundamental skills that underpin law and business across a range of sectors, providing a solid foundation for your next steps into employment, higher education, apprenticeship, self-employment in a trade or a stepping stone to starting your own business

The Level 3 Forensic and Criminal Investigation Foundation Diploma is an exciting and innovative course being offered here at West Suffolk College.  Students will study the core concepts of Forensic Science and Criminal Investigation for some of their time with the remaining time being devoted to the more traditional sciences of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.  This breadth of study will allow students the opportunity to pursue careers in both scientific and social science disciplines so is ideal for those students who want to branch out. Students will complete both coursework and exams in the first year, with some of the coursework being under exam conditions. Students will then study the full Forensic and Criminal Investigation Extended Diploma in their second year. Here at WSC, we endeavour to do as much practical work as we can and students can look forward to modules such as Forensic Fire Investigation, Criminological Theories, Forensic Investigation Procedures in Practice and Forensic Traffic Collision Investigation, including use of the purpose built Crime Scene Room.

This exciting new course combines the  subjects of Policing Methodology, Crime Scene Management, Criminology, and Sociology.  Delivered full-time over the duration of 36 weeks, the course gives you the opportunity to develop the knowledge and the range of skills which are essential for a successful transition to Higher Education.

 

The course will develop a range of important skills, which will enable progression and future success in study at degree level. Upon successful completion of this course, you will have the necessary skills and confidence to pursue a variety of degree studies in fields including Psychology; Criminology; Law; Policing; Social Work, and the Civil Service. 

 

Access to Policing provides students with knowledge of a range of pertinent subject matter along with the opportunity to develop their skills at a higher level to facilitate progression to degree. This programme broadens student's experience and knowledge by exploring theories and practical elements of the course within a variety of contexts and arenas. In addition, we focus on encouraging the students to form their own unique approaches to learning; thus, being able to seamlessly transition to degree programmes of their choice.

 

This course provides a recognised route to higher education courses for many branches of Public Services, including Policing and Criminal Justice, and other related programmes. It may also lead to higher education degree courses in areas such as Criminology, Psychology and Sociology. Access to Higher Education programmes are designed to meet the needs of students who may not have had the opportunity to enter higher education earlier in their lives. Classes are flexibly timetabled to meet the needs of student learners

This course is suitable for those seeking to develop their skills and knowledge in Applied Psychology and Social Sciences with opportunity for progression onto university degree courses or employment.

This one or two year course provides students with a flexible learning plan where all students study the same subject in the first academic year and then have the option to continue their study in the second year within a small number of science or social science disciplines. 

This course is an excellent choice for students interested in psychology with additional interests in criminology, health and wellbeing

Students will gain qualifications in the first year to equal 1.5 A'levels and Core Maths.

One of the great benefits of studying with West Suffolk College is the highly trained professional team of staff all of whom have industry experiences that they share with the learners and support their development. 

An additional  valuable component within the course structure is the  work placement that is undertaken of 100 hours each year. Work placement is organised by the work placement team.

It is a full time course. You attend college three days per week and additionally one day is out in placement throughout the college year. 

This offers the opportunity to work in a variety of settings, including educational psychology, protective services, crime and reform services, psychology and counselling.
