Skills Bootcamps

XR Lab, class, welding

Skills Bootcamps aim to help participants find jobs across a range of growing sectors. These flexible courses, lasting up to 16 weeks, are designed to help people quickly gain specific, in-demand industry skills. Whether you’re looking to start a new career, upskill, or progress in your current role, Skills Bootcamps offer the support you need. The programme is funded by the government and developed in partnership with local authorities, working closely with employers to meet local needs.

We are currently offering Skills Bootcamps across the Eastern region in Suffolk and Norfolk and Cambridge and Peterborough Combined Authority.

Criteria

  • Adults aged 19+ living or working in the delivery region
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Meet DWP requirements for funding
  • Employers aiming to train and retain their team members
  • Individuals seeking to gain employment in a new sector
  • Funding available for employers
  • Free to part-time and unemployed individuals

  • Understanding Sustainability in Management - Delivered in Suffolk and Norfolk and Cambridge and Peterborough

    This Skills Bootcamp will cover the essentials in sustainability and explore practical strategies to integrate them into business operations including: Introduction to Sustainability, Waste and Energy Management, Leadership and Culture, The Power of AI and Digital solutions to enhance efficiency, productivity and quality.

    Develop strong future leaders with practical skills in:

    • Communication, motivation & people management
    • Team building, engagement & conflict resolution
    • Problem-solving, continuous improvement & change leadership
    • Confidence through a final presentation assessment
  • Introduction to Education Bootcamp – Delivered in Cambridge and Peterborough Combined Authority

    Supporting new entrants and career development in education settings
    This bootcamp equips individuals with essential knowledge to confidently support teaching and wider school operations. Training includes:

    • Understanding safeguarding and keeping children safe
    • Equality, Diversity & Inclusion best practices
    • First aid qualification
    • Skills for success in school-based support roles
    • Opportunities to interview with sector employers

    Great for developing classroom support staff and onboarding new talent
    Builds confidence for learners transitioning into education careers
    Employers can use this to strengthen teaching support across departments

  • Introduction to Welding Bootcamp - Delivered in Cambridge and Peterborough

    Hands-on training for new or progressing technicians
    This programme builds practical capability while giving learners the confidence and technical understanding needed for workplace success. Training includes:

    • Key welding techniques and processes
    • Hands-on practical development supported by VR simulation technology
    • Certified first aid qualification
    • Interview opportunities for sector roles upon completion
    • Employers can build their own trained pipeline of welders
      Effective for supporting entry roles or internal skill conversions
      Delivered at NCTC, reducing demand on employer equipment and resources
  • AI - Digital Transformation

    AI - Digital Transformation Skills Bootcamp is designed to make AI feel more comfortable and accessible.
    The programme will be built around four phases:
    • Foundations – Learning the basics, exploring tools available and complete guided tasks
    • Role-Relevant Practice – opportunity to look into usage of AI in daily work.
    • Reflection & Growth – Sharing successes, exploring risks, and building ethical awareness
    • Scaling and Future Use – long term usage of AI

    Participants will develop their practical skills of AI, supporting them in their regular job roles.

    The course will be delivered through a mixture of group collaboration and learner-led activities. There will also be mini lectures for each topic, followed practical exercises and discussions.

  • VENI - Improving Customer Service

    Learners can expect to learn a variety of skills that support a job role within the visitor economy sector, focusing on soft, green and digital skills. There are eight key elements that will then make up the UK Hospitality Skills Passport.

    This includes the following:

    1. Employability Skills (motivation, team building, CV writing)
    2. Local Ambassadors (Civic Pride)
    3. Principles of Customer Service
    4. Inclusive Service and Unconscious Bias
    5. Food Hygiene, First Aid, and Health and Safety
    6. Carbon Literacy and Sustainability in the Workplace
    7. Essential Digital Skills

    The course will be delivered through a mixture of group collaboration and learner-led activities. There will also be mini lectures for each topic, followed by practical exercises and discussions.
