Sophie – who recently had her work included at a prestigious exhibition in Barcelona and displayed on a prominent billboard in London said: “We wanted to showcase the artwork we do outside of our teaching so people can see what we do alongside our day job. We’ve collectively supported thousands of people over the years and this hopefully gives future students an insight into what we do to support our teaching. It’s free to the public and runs until 11 May 2023. The reaction we’ve had so far has been brilliant.”

Nicole Beatty

I think it’s important to showcase the amazing talent of our staff to help inspire the next generation.”

Derek Johnson

Derek Johnson

Derek Johnson is the Director for Art and Design at West Suffolk College. Derek said: “Staff from the school of art and design at the college are all practising and creative people who continuously bring their skills to the classroom. What you see in this show is a real mix of pieces created by talented practitioners and I’m very proud. Sophie’s tenacity and vision helped make this happen, our awarding body came along and supported us and they were impressed. I’d like to thank all of the staff for getting involved. Some of the work has been inspired by trips to the America and South Korea that was funded by the Turing Scheme and it’s great to have a footprint in the heart of this prestigious town. I’d also like to thank The Apex for being very supportive and I’m hoping this will be the first staff exhibition of many.”
