About the course
This course will take place on our Sixth Form Campus, therefore any applicants aged 19 or over who do not have an Education, Health and Care Plan will be required to complete an Enhanced DBS check as part of the conditional offer to West Suffolk College. The cost to the applicant for an Enhanced DBS is £52.00 and the DBS check can be completed through the college.

The course is a one year intensive programme of study designed to develop the skills required for students who would like a career within the make-up industry, such as fashion and media, photographic and film or to progress on to higher levels and university studies.
Media Hair & Make-up Artistry provides you with specialist practical skills and knowledge, equipping you to seek employment or progression within the Media Make-up industry.
The working world of an MUA is fast paced, demanding and exciting, students must be prepared to put in additional hours of practice at home. You will be required to work as artists backstage at fashion shows and theatre productions as part of your mandatory work experience, helping to enhance and develop your skills and build your confidence
This is a practically-based fast paced, creative programme, you will need to be highly motivated and be able to work positively as a member of a team and independently, working to a high professional standard. Each student will be responsible for compiling their own portfolio of evidence, which will include all theory, projects and practical assessments.
The course offers a range of enrichment activities throughout the year and students are expected to take part in West Suffolk College and national competitions.
This course has an end point practical assessment, similar to a trade test, this covers practical skills and behaviours of the professional make up artist, this happens at the start of the third term. There will also be a theory written exam at the end of the second term, this covers theory taught across all units of make up artistry.

Some of the products used in the hairdressing and beauty industry contain nuts and therefore this occupation may not be suitable for those people with an allergy to nuts.
We are happy to provide a range of courses for anyone interested in kick starting a career in any of the five specialist vocations. Choose from a range of full time diplomas, perfect for those leaving school, or our part time courses for those aged 19+ or an apprenticeships where you can earn a wage while learning on the job.
