About the course

This pathway is designed for young people who require a transition programme with a personalised approach to developing the skills they need to overcome current barriers to Further Education and/ or gaining employment.

Pathway to Achieve programmes focus on enabling students to manage and channel their emotions and behaviour positively and equip themselves with the skills, confidence and self-awareness needed to progress onto paid work, a Traineeship, an Apprenticeship or Further Education.

 

Entry requirements

No formal entry requirements are necessary.

Students will be invited to attend pre-programme engagement days to assess individual needs and establish suitability for this pathway.

Entry requirements for all Supported Learning Pathways will include assessment of previous and current behaviours to evaluate any impact on safety in group learning situations.

Qualifications

Students will continue to develop their English and Maths skills by studying for either Functional Skills qualifications or GCSE's as appropriate.

 

What you'll learn (core modules)

Students on Pathway to Achieve programmes will explore, develop and apply the skills needed to:

  • Become more confident in a variety of learning, life and work situations.
  • Make well-informed decisions towards positive future goals.
  • Work towards shared goals and outcomes as part of a team.
  • Take on new challenges, overcome problems and make positive choices.
  • Actively participate in meaningful, community and social enterprise projects.
  • Undertake vocational tasters and work-related learning within the college, community and workplace (as appropriate to individual needs and future goals).

Benefits, skills and character strengths

To help you prepare for learning, life and work in the future, you will be working on developing the following character strengths: Ambition, Confidence, Curiosity, Optimism, Ownership, Resilience, Respect and Self-Control.

How will I be assessed?

Progress towards your goals will be tracked using RARPA (Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement) and monitored on your Individual Learning Plan throughout the year.

Where is the course delivered? (facilities/classrooms)

Classes for this Pathway will take place in Minden House, which is designed to offer a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for students with SEND.

Vocational tasters and work-related learning opportunities will take place at different college, community and workplace settings as appropriate to meet needs and reflect future goals.

Where will the course take me?

Through a person-centred approach to learning, this Pathway ensures that students are continually making progress towards their individual learning, life and work-related goals for the future. Students may progress onto Further Education study, a Traineeship, an Apprenticeship or employment on completion.

Will I need any materials or equipment?

Students will be expected to bring in their own basic equipment e.g. pens and paper etc.
