All courses take place on our Sixth Form Campus, therefore any applicants aged 25+ or over who do not have an Education, Health and Care Plan may be required to complete a DBS check as part of the conditional offer to West Suffolk College. The cost to the applicant for a DBS is £30.00 and the DBS check can be completed through the college.

About the course

Sponsored by The Gym Group

If you can't run, walk. If you can't walk, crawl, but by all means, keep moving.

The programme is for those hands-on learners looking to progress into the world of working in sport and apprenticeships.

Working in sport is about opening doors and connecting with employers through the sporting industry. It will allow you to create pathways into an ever-growing industry.

The modules are designed to provide students with a high level of practical skills, which are relevant to the wide range of demands within the sports industry sector such as Careers in Sport, Self-Employment in Sport and Physical Activity, Sports Development, Health and Well-being in Sport, Developing Coaching Skills and Anatomy and Physiology.

Students will have the chance to work within the sporting industry, with our key partners, The Gym Group, Premier Sport, and The Playground.

This will give students the opportunity to gain key work experience and industry relevant skills. These placements also give students the opportunity to gain part time and full-time employment. Many others progress onto university, studying areas such as Sports Coaching, Physical Education, or Performance Analysis.

Entry Requirements

Entry is by interview. Applicants will need a minimum of four GCSEs Grade 4 or above, including maths and/or English at Grade 4.

Applicants will need to be motivated and manage their own time. Learners will need to have a mature and responsible outlook as they will be required to work with a high degree of independence for certain aspects of the course..

Any student aged 16 to 19 who does not hold a GCSE A* to C (9 to 4 on the new grading structure) or equivalent qualifications in Maths and English by age 16 will need to continue to study these subjects.
