About the course
This qualification is for you if you are a 16 to 19 year old learner, who wishes to work as an electrician in the building services industry. It has been designed to deliver a high level of occupational skills and provide a platform from which to progress through further into an apprenticeship programme or into employment. This route at Level 2 is a step towards becoming a competent electrician.
Four GCSE's Grade 5 or above, including maths and English at Grade C (5/6) and science. It is expected that the applicant will have a genuine interest in the industry and each applicant will be required to attend an interview to ascertain his/her suitability for the course as well as take a short aptitude test.

This course is assessed by synoptic exam and practical assessment.
How will I be assessed?
The synoptic assignment is externally set, internally marked and externally moderated. The assignment requires candidates to identify and use effectively, in an integrated way, an appropriate selection of skills, techniques, concepts, theories, and knowledge from across the whole content area.
Candidates will be judged against the Assessment Objectives
There will be one opportunity within each academic year to sit the assignment. Candidates who fail the assignment will have one resit opportunity. The resit opportunity will be in the next academic year, and will be the assignment set for that academic year once released to centres. If the resit is failed, the candidate will fail the qualification.
