This study programme is designed for 16 to 19 year olds (aged 19 to 24 for students with an Education, Health and Care Plan).

All courses take place on our Sixth Form Campus, therefore any applicants aged 25+ or over who do not have an Education, Health and Care Plan may be required to complete a DBS check as part of the conditional offer to West Suffolk College. The cost to the applicant for a DBS is £30.00 and the DBS check can be completed through the college.

About the course

This T level is designed to support students who are interested in future careers relating to adult nursing and midwifery. The T levels are courses are designed to provide a complimentary mix of classroom based, simulated learning and industry placement to support both theoretical and practical skills development. The T level Health programmes are run in conjunction with the Health and Care Academy, West Suffolk Hospital, Addenbrookes Hospital and a number of additional Health employers. 

The course runs over two years and include placement within one of the local employers and is based on your preference and career interests.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE at grade 5 and above and Math, English and Science a minimum of grade 4 

Qualifications

You will gain a T level in Health which carries the same UCAS points as 3 A levels. 

You may also have the opportunity to complete additional vocational specific qualifications such as first aid, manual handling and food safety.

 

What you'll learn (core modules)

In the first year of the programme there are three elements to your course- these are the foundation- core subjects of healthcare and science as well as employer skills project 

In the second year you will complete skills and knowledge development through both class based and work-based learning

These programmes are designed to support you to be able to develop a good working knowledge of the subject matter and the skills to work within the industry. You will get the connections, qualifications and personal skills to support you to progress either within the working environment or support you to apply for further education. 

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is a mixture of examination, planned assessment, skills demonstrations and assignment work.

Where is the course delivered? (facilities/classrooms)

The course is delivered on purpose build science laboratories and specialist suite of rooms including a simulation ward and an anatomy and therapeutic suite. 

Where will the course take me?

This course whilst focus is to the careers of Adult Nursing and Midwifery = it allows you to explore the wider careers within the healthcare professions.

 

You can gain employment within the sector or go onto university places to study a specific pathway.

You are required to purchase 2 work placements shirts a copy of the course text
