About the course
This course provides a Level 3 foundation to learning in the Health Science sector, providing a valuable balanced qualification for progression into higher level Health Science courses such as Degree's. apprenticeships or employment. There is an emphasis on applied sciences within the course to support students who are interested in clinical career aspirations. A compulsory part of the course is work placement and you will need to complete in the region of 75 hours per year within the course. Work placement is organised by the work placement team. It is a full time course. You attend college three days per week, and one day are out in placement. You will get the opportunity to work in a variety of Health Sciences Settings.

Entry requirements
The minimum requirement is 5 GCSEs at (Grade 5 or equivalent to include Maths, English and Science
In addition all students must:

Qualifications
The 2 year course is comprised of a Diploma in Health and Social Care and an Extended Certificate in Applied Human Biology. These combine to provide a student with the equivalent of 3 A levels. Students are also expected to take a Core Math qualification which also carries UCAS points.

The course will prepare you for education that provides a springboard to study for a degree at level 4 and above, providing you with a strong foundation for further through developing your academic skills as well as supporting you to use work placement to inform your application of learning. Careers within the health science sector, including Therapies, such as Physiotherapy, Speech and Language pathology, Occupational Therapy, Radiography, Clinical diagnostics, Adult and Paediatric Nursing, Paramedic Sciences and other patient facing roles within the health and applied science sector. You will also be supported to stretch and challenge yourself to include the addition of Core Maths, statistics to your study programme.
How will I be assessed?
You will sit a combination of 25% examinations and 75% coursework in each year of the programme.
Where is the course delivered? (facilities/classrooms)
The course is delivered at Bury St Edmunds, with placement within the local area.
Where will the course take me?
The course will allow you to progress to degree's in Health sector, including Health and Wellbeing, and Health Sciences associated Degrees. Students alternatively may choose to apply for a subject specific apprenticeship.
Will I need any materials or equipment?
Students will need to purchase two placement T-shirts, available from the college shop at a cost of around £13 each.
Furthermore, students will need to have their own college stationery for classes - paper, pens, a folder etc.
How much will it cost?
This course is funded for students aged 16-19
