Understanding the Principles of Dementia Care Level 3 Online

About the course

This level 3 certificate is designed for learners who want to develop their knowledge and understanding of dementia and dementia care.

This course allows learners to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of dementia and its effects. Learners will gain an understanding of the types of dementia, the importance of early diagnosis and the role of communication, interaction and inclusion in dementia care and support.

Entry requirements

You may be eligible for full funding if you are:

• Be aged 19+ on the 31/08/2026
• living in the UK
• earning below £26,800 a year OR £30,491 a year if you live in a PE or CB postcode
• OR are unemployed and in receipt of certain benefits

There may be slightly different rules about the maximum amount you can earn depending on the area you live. Check with us if you are unsure. If you are not eligible for funding, a course fee would be payable. This can be paid in instalments, paid by an employer or you can apply for an Advance Learner Loan. Please ask for further details.

Learners must complete a maths and English assessment to ensure they are working at the required level for the qualification.

What you'll learn (core modules)

This qualification will allow you to develop knowledge and understanding of caring for individuals with dementia.

You will study:

• The types of dementia and the importance of early diagnosis.
• The role of communication, interaction and inclusion in dementia care and support.
• The use of medication to support individuals with dementia.

You will also look at the importance of a "person-centred" approach to dementia care.

How will I be assessed?

The course includes online learning materials in the form of interactive resources and flipbooks, a personalised login to access the online learning portal will be given on enrolment.

You will be required to work through a series of tasks and activities designed to reinforce the learning process and demonstrate your knowledge. Your personal tutor will then assess your work and provide you with constructive feedback for each unit.

Where is the course delivered? (facilities/classrooms)

All learning will be online (self-study) and can be completed at a time that suits without the need to attend college. Dedicated tutors will provide written feedback on the assessments and ongoing remote support where required.
