About the course

On this course you will be studying a L1 Award/Certificate in an Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector which will provide an insight in to the Hairdressing and Beauty industry. You will develop professional skills in both hairdressing and beauty therapy

Entry requirements

Entry is by interview (informal). Candidates will be 14-16 and from an EHE background. Applicants will also need to be studying Maths and English with a view to completing their GCSE examinations. Applicants will need to be motivated, be able to manage their own time and have an enthusiastic approach to learning.

Qualifications

Successful candidates will achieve the Level 1 Award/Certificate in an Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector.

What you'll learn (core modules)

Combining hairdressing and beauty therapy, this course will give students a clearer understanding of these subjects and help them decide which path they might choose to follow as they progress through the vocational levels. The course will also provide and early opportunity for EHE learners to experience Further Education in preparation for progressing to University and/or employment.

 

The main aim of the course is to give learners the opportunity to gain a qualification while having fun and learning the core elements of the subjects covered. This will be achieved through the development of both theory sessions and practical workshops, encouraging their creativity, confidence and respect for peers and staff.
 

Each unit of study will develop skills in hairdressing and beauty therapy, be it development of professional image, salon health and safety, skin care, hand care, basic make-up application, shampooing and conditioning, plaiting and twisting and hair styling. Alongside the main programme, Maths and English GCSE/FS is offered.

How will I be assessed?

There are no exams for our main programme. Assessment in primarily through portfolio building, coursework and practical assessment and all work is assessed and verified internally.

Where is the course delivered? (facilities/classrooms)

West Suffolk College Main Campus. Lessons are within specialist hairdressing and beauty therapy salons.

Where will this course take me?

Students on this course will have the opportunity to progress on to our subject specific courses where they can continue to explore their chosen specialities further, onto higher level programmes and in to employment. We have an outstanding track record of our student having amazing careers and fulfilling their dreams.

How much will it cost?

The course is fully funded for Electively Home Educated students however students may be required to purchase some essential kit items. Items required and cost to be confirmed.
