About the course
This course is an introduction to the make-up artistry industry, allowing you to complete maths and English GSCE alongside studying your chosen vocational area of make-up. The units covered are a varied range of practical and theory subjects, including hair, make-up and themed face painting. These units will prepare you for progression onto the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Make-up Artistry.
Entry requirements
Whilst on the make-up course, you can work towards completing your GCSE in English and/ or maths. Entry requirements are a grade 3 in English and maths. A grade 4 or above in creatvive subjects such as art and design are desireable.
Qualifications
At the end of the course you will have completed the City and Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy –Make-up Artistry Route. Pass/merit/distinction grades are awarded to some of the unit theory based assessments.

In addition to your timetabled sessions, you will recieve training and attend guest lectures from visiting make-up artists who currently work in industry.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed throughout your course and given feedback on your skills. You will complete written assessments and take some unit tests to demonstarte your theory knowledge. For practical hair and make-up assessments, you will be required to produce hair and make-up looks following a range of assessment criteria, working on either a model or another member of your class.
Where is the course delivered? (facilities/classrooms)
Practical lesons will take place in the fully equipped hair and make-up studio at West Suffolk College. Theory lessons will take place in a theory classroom.
Where will the course take me?
This course will give an insight into the industry and successful completion will enable you to progress onto the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Make-up Artistry.
Will I need any materials or equipment?
There is a kit to purchase at the beginning of the academic year, to enable you to complete the practical elements of the course (cost TBC). You may require arts and crafts materials for making mood boards, in addition to stationary such as couloured pens, pencils etc. Enrichment activities will be organised throughout the year at an additional cost.
