You can take different levels of qualification from entry level, to Level 1, 2 and GCSE. Classes run daytime or evenings at centres throughout Suffolk, therefore you can choose which course best suits your needs.
All our qualifications are valued by employers and could be used to gain entry to other courses including degree.
What you'll learn (core modules)
This course will also provide you with English skills in preparation for progressing to GCSE, university and/or employment.
You will be part of a small, friendly classroom and will focus on building everyday practical skills such as letter writing, report writing, the use of formal and informal language and reading techniques. You will also take part in talks and discussions, working towards the reformed qualification in Functional Skills English.
The qualification comprises three assessments – reading, writing and speaking and listening.
How will I be assessed?
Examinations will be taken for reading and writing along with a speaking and listening assessment.
Speaking and listening will be assessed online. Reading and writing examinations will require attendance at a local learning centre.
There will be the opportunity to sit mock exams, in preparation, and your tutor will provide written and verbal feedback.
Where is the course delivered? (facilities/classrooms)
Due to the continuing pandemic all classes will be delivered ONLINE. We appreciate that this style of learning does not suit everyone, and for some people it may not even be possible, but we have been offering online learning since September and it has worked really well. Classes will be delivered using Microsoft TEAMS and alongside the same great standard of teaching, students will also have regular one to one sessions with the tutor to ensure everyone is given the support they need. Feedback from existing students is that they have enjoyed the experience and the exam pass rate has been excellent.
Where will this course take me?
Functional Skills qualifications for Levels 1 and 2 are progression routes towards the GCSE. When a qualification is successfully achieved you will have the option to progress onto a higher level functional skill or a GCSE.
How much will it cost?
If you have lived within the EU for the previous 3 years and do not already have a GCSE grade C or above in this subject then you qualify for full course funding.
I'm interested. What should I do now?
