Introduction
The part time course is structured to enable students to fit coursework around their work commitments. To enrol on the HND you must have completed a relevant Higher National Certificate (HNC). HND in Mechanical Engineering is designed to enable progression from HNC Engineering providing a nationally recognised award at level 5 for mechanical technicians who are employed at a professional level. The course will also provide opportunities for learners to develop higher level skills and a range of techniques and attributes essential for successful performance in working life, enabling application for professional recognition as an Incorporated Engineer.
The units studied have been selected in association with local employers in a variety of industries, aiming to satisfy their future needs. The qualification aims to develop knowledge and skills in engineering that will allow graduates to make positive contributions to employers as fast as possible and so progress in a career. Successful completion will also enable entry to the level 6 progression route BEng (Hons) Engineering degree (1 year full-time or two years part-time) at Degree Studies at West Suffolk College or entry to level 6 of Engineering related degrees at other UK Higher Education institutions.
