To enrol on the HND you must have completed a relevant Higher National Certificate (HNC). HND in Electrical Engineering is designed to enable progression from HNC Engineering providing a nationally recognised award at level 5 for mechanical technicians who are employed at a professional level. The course will also provide opportunities for learners to develop higher level skills and a range of techniques and attributes essential for successful performance in working life, enabling application for professional recognition as an Incorporated Engineer. The units studied have been selected in association with local employers in a variety of industries, aiming to satisfy their future needs. The qualification aims to develop knowledge and skills in engineering that will allow graduates to make positive contributions to employers as fast as possible and so progress in a career. Successful completion will also enable entry to the level 6 progression route BEng (Hons) Engineering degree (1 year full-time or two years part-time) at Degree Studies at West Suffolk College or entry to level 6 of Engineering related degrees at other UK Higher Education institutions. Assessment uses a variety of methods, including reports, assignments and presentations, where practical these are electronically submitted.
The Department has access to Autocad 2020, Inventor 2020 and electronic simulation uses Multisim version 14 in either of our 5 technical suites with at least 20 seats. The Faculty has several dedicated electronics laboratories and a machine shop.

Successful completion of a relevant HNC.
IELTS 6.0 overall (minimum 5.5 in all components) where English is not the students' first language.
A typical acceptance offer would be a pass in an HNC in electrical and electronic engineering.
