About the course
Have you always wanted to work within the live performance sector? Are you a performance artist, a session musician, a teacher, songwriter or are you performing in a band? Do you have a skill, a passion or just an interest in the music and performing industries? If you are looking for a career as an artist, musician, songwriter or enjoy performing, then this one year Professional Diploma Level 4 course in Performance, awarded by the University of the Arts London, will give you the chance to develop and focus your skills and knowledge for a career within the performance industries.
To apply for this you will need to have a background in a Music or Performing Arts related subject.
A Level 3 Vocational Qualification with a minimum of Merit Grade or 3 A levels A*- C
Mature students with relevant experience can be assessed at interview.
All applicants will undergo a formal audition prior to a place being offered.
Previous qualifications in a music or performing arts area.
A portfolio of performance work / ideas to be assessed at interview.

What you'll learn (Core Modules)
There are 3 Units that make up the Level 4 Professional Diploma in Performance:
Unit 1: Applied Professional Practice
This unit introduces you to the realities of a professional working environment and the standards required within the industry.
Unit 2: Specialist Performance Practice
This unit allows you to develop your performance skills further through exploration of your own specific skills.
Both Units 1 & 2 are assessed at Pass or Fail through the submission of a Performance Portfolio.
Unit 3: Specialist Performance Project
This unit is the culmination of your Performance Portfolio development where you will realise your own professional performance ambitions by instigating, rehearsing and performing in a specialist project of your own choice.
Unit 3 will complete your Level 4 qualification and provide your final grade at either Fail, Pass, Merit or Distinction and is externally moderated by the University of the Arts London.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is through the achievement of a Performance Portfolio for Units 1 and 2 and
through a final presentation of a Specialist Performance Project for Unit 3.
The course follows specific learning outcomes alongside 'live' projects that will allow you to develop your specific skills further as well as having the opportunity to work in a professional industry environment.
Where is the course delivered? (facilities/classrooms)
The course is based in classrooms that have access to Mac computers all with appropriate software as well as use of professional rehearsal and studio recording facilities together with specialised areas for dedicated creative development.
Where will the course take me?
This one-year course will give you the opportunity to develop your portfolio further and to establish yourself as an artist who is looking to gain employment within the performing arts industries.
It will also give you the chance to gain further skills prior to entry to University or specialised higher education such as Music Conservatoires.
Will I need any materials or equipment?
You will need to provide your own instrument and accessories and to purchase ABRSM music theory books to support your course.
How much will it cost?
If you are 18 the course is free.
If you are aged 19 or over, you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.
Students are also able to apply for a bursary to help with getting to and from college and any other costs related to the course including materials.
