About the course

 

Suitable for learners who seek careers in film and television. The course provides exciting opportunities for hands-on experience of moving image production through practical projects. The course operates an in-house production studio which acts as a commercial production house taking on projects from external clients. This gives learners real world experience in the media industry where they will develop a strong show reel ready for employment/university.

Entry requirements

The requirement is five GCSE's at Grade C or above, including maths and English at Grade C (4), or a media related Level 2 diploma, graded merit or above and 90% attendance. Alternatively relevant evidence of work experience will be taken into account. Applicants must have an active interest in Film Production.

Qualifications

The College offers a wide menu of Level 3 Diplomas. We will work with all learners in their first six weeks at College to place them on the appropriate Diploma programme that best meets their individual needs and best ensures their success.

What you'll learn (core modules)

Learners have access to high-end Apple Mac edit suites, High Definition SLR cameras and many other production resources. There are opportunities for enrichment trips and Year 2 learners have the opportunity to take part in a residential trip where they produce their own short film, this is exhibited at the end of year showcase finale at Cineworld, Bury St Edmunds. Topics covered range from editing & audio techniques, camera techniques, 2D animation, 48 Hour Film Challenge, interview techniques, music video production, advertising, writing for television and film and VFX

 

Any student aged 16 to 19 who does not hold a GCSE A* to C (9 to 4 on the new grading structure) or equivalent qualifications in Maths and English by age 16 will need to continue to study these subjects in each academic year.

Where will the course take me?

Many learners from this course gain entry to employment or go on to some of the country's most prestigious universities that specialise in Film Production, Television Production, 2D Animation and VFX Compositing . Of the students who completed this course last year 79% went onto Higher Education while 21% secured employment.
