Overview of course
This course will provide a comprehensive introduction to Origami, the Japanese art of paper folding. The students will start with traditional single sheet models, before progressing onto more intricate modular pieces. Create beautiful gifts for friends and family.
What will I learn?
Students will start with the basics: an introduction to the history of the art form, how to perform accurate folds, and how to read instructional diagrams. You will learn several single sheets traditional Japanese folds, cranes, lucky stars, flapping birds, jumping frogs, butterflies - as well as more structured modular pieces. These will include origami envelopes, gift boxes and pencil pots, origami flowers and table decorations, origami ornaments, origami Christmas decorations, a modular origami kinetic toy and a traditional Japanese 'kusudama' ball.
Who is the course for?
Suitable for all: beginners or for those with some experience of working with paper.
Will I have to provide anything?
Students will be asked to purchase a starter pack on the first day of the course. This will include a large pack of square origami paper and a folding bone. Please bring along £10 to the first session to cover the cost of these items. Students are advised to bring a large plastic container in which to safely transport their paper creations.
Access to the main college car park is via Beeton's Way (IP33 3TT). At your first session please go to Main Reception in The Gateway where you will be met by the tutor or directed to your classroom.
