Overview of course
Learn basic jewellery making techniques, processes and materials, such as cuttlefish casting, filing, cutting, drilling and polishing.
What will I learn?
The cuttlefish bone acts as a mould. It can only be used for one cast. Cuttlefish casting is a good, basic introduction in familiarising a learner in methods and tools (both hand and some machine) used in Silversmithing/Jewellery making.
You will be using Piercing Saws, Needle Files, Hand Drills and a Gas operated Blowlamp as well as other small hand tools. Apart from introducing learners to the above methods, tools and materials used in many facets of 3Dimensional Design metalworking principles, one of the main aims of this session will be to inspire and to give the learner more confidence using the tools and methods within a workshop environment.
Who is the course for?
This short course will expect you to adhere to all Health and Safety procedures whilst on the College site. There will be a short Health and Safety induction before practical work starts. Students must wear sensible footware (i.e no open toe).
Will I have to provide anything?
Please bring a packed lunch, there are vending machines for hot beverages. Please note - Once you have enrolled we will only contact you if the course is NOT going ahead.
Access to the main college car park is via Beeton's Way (IP33 3TT). At your first session please go to Main Reception in The Gateway where you will be met by the tutor or directed to your classroom.
