Overview of course
Politics and sociology are intimately related. This short course will explore the ways in which sociologists of different political convictions have viewed society and issues such as economics, crime, gender, employment etc. Alongside sociologists, this course will also touch on psychologists, philosophers, ethicists and others who have influenced the subject.
What will I learn?
Week 1: Left-wing views from Marx, Weber, Durkheim and others
Week 2: Right-wing views from Murray, Rand, Marsland and others
Week 3: Centrist views from Giddens, Peterson, Aurobindo and others
Week 4: Pulling it all together - conflicts and commonalities
Who is the course for?
Anyone (16+) with an interest in the development of social theory and understanding of mass systems. No background experience required. This course will involve some discussion, so a willingness to participate would be good.
