Join the internet revolution This short course is the perfect introduction for those who are feeling left behind in this internet age and want to know how to use a computer tablet to access the wealth of information that can be found on the internet.
Tablets are small portable computers which can do everything a normal computer can do but instead of using a mouse and keyboard all you need is a finger or two to operate, as they use a touch sensitive screen. Tablets are produced by the major computer and phone manufacturers, like Apple, Samsung, Asus, etc., and have names like Apple IPad, Galaxy Tab, etc. Tablets provide an alternative method of accessing the Internet to traditional computers and laptops.
The course is aimed at those who have no, or very little, knowledge of tablets and how to get online. In plain non-technical language, it will take you through the very basics of what a tablet is, how to operate it and look at how to use your tablet to access and use the internet to; search for information, access online services like banking, benefits, taxes, passports and other government services. how to shop online and how to access social media to keep in touch with friends and family.
It will also look at the importance of having an email account in the online world, how to get your own email account (for free) and how to send and receive emails.
The course will have a mix of taught and practice sessions to help embed your new skills.
There are no formal entry requirements, but you will need to attend an induction and assessment session to check this is the right course for you.
A mixture of Apple and Android tablets will be available to learn on or you can bring your own tablet to the class. So if you are thinking of getting a tablet this course could help you decide if it is right for you.
There is no qualification associated with this course.

Accessing online services, filling out online forms to book appointments, holidays, apply for jobs etc.
How to access social media websites.
Where will this course take me?
There is the opportunity to enrol for a digital skills course leading to a qualification from Entry Level 3 up to Level 1 (available for those using a tablet or computer).
