Overview of course

This qualification is part of the new Children's Homes Regulations which came into force in April 2015.
It has replaced the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services (Children and Young People's Residential Management Pathway) as the required qualification for those working in children's homes.
This qualification provides the skills and knowledge needed to manage practice and lead others in residential childcare settings for children and young people. The qualification enables the learner to gain essential skills and knowledge for leading in a residential childcare setting, including leading and managing a team; leading and managing group living; leading practice to support children and young people; and implementing policies and procedures.
It also offers the learner the opportunity to cover optional topics which are particularly suited to specific residential childcare and respite care settings.

The qualification is delivered within the workplace, and a programme tutor will meet with you every 6-8 weeks. Any assessments completed through-out the qualification will take place within your work environment.

Entry requirements

No entry requirements, however, learners must be 19 or over to start the course. We also ensure you are in the right job role, or volunteering role, to be able to meet the criteria by conducting an informal interview over the phone or face-to-face.

You will be asked to complete initial assessments prior to enrolling onto the course to determine if you will need additional support whilst on programme.

Qualifications

On completion, you will achieve:

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare certificated by Cache.
  • Skills for Success - This module is designed by West Suffolk College to ensure you have all the personal skills and behaviours to succeed in the workplace.

Further course detail

This course has no fixed price, and will vary depending on previous experience, location, and quantity of learners.

There is a possibility for progression to become one of the following: Registered Residential Childcare Manager, Deputy/Assistant Manager, Deputy/Assistant Manager in another adult or children and young people's social care setting.
