About the course

This study programme is designed for our aged 19+ adult learners.

Please visit our 16-18 section for alternative courses.

Business is a dynamic subject. You will learn about the diverse nature of business enterprise and the interdependence of the various parts of the
business world. You will explore business success and business failure. Furthermore, you will learn how to understand how businesses need to adapt and respond strategically to the changing environment in which they operate to survive and grow.

This exciting opportunity provides full-time learners with the opportunity to develop the knowledge and the range of skills which are essential for a successful transition to Higher Education. The structure of the programme provides learners with all the tools required to undertake an Honours Degree in Business and Management once completed.

In addition, there are three units that introduce and equip learners with the necessary skills required in order to study at the higher levels required at university. Throughout the course, learners will develop personal and professional skills, in readiness for the next step, in order to allow them to feel at home in an HE environment.

Subject to numbers, the course is available either as a day course running for two full days per week

Entry requirements

Applicants must be 19 years of age or older on 31st August prior to the course beginning. Entry is by interview and successful completion of a task within a given timeframe.

Applicants will need to be motivated and be able to manage their own time.

Applicants would benefit from having both English and Maths at GCSE grade C/4 or above. If you have not achieved either of these qualifications, we highly recommend that should be working towards this, as it would most likely be an entry requirement for a university after the course has completed. We can give you further details at interview if you require either of these qualifications.

Learners will need to have a mature and responsible outlook, as they will be required to work with a high degree of independence throughout much of the course.

Qualifications

This is a unique opportunity to achieve a qualification that gives entry to Higher Education. The qualification is the CAVA Access to Higher Education Programme at Level 3 that can be completed from Pass grade to Distinction level.

What you'll learn (core modules)

Learners will be timetabled for two full days per week with independent study days which will support research and investigation. The course covers core areas of wide-ranging disciplines that will benefit you either as you progress to higher levels of study or in the workplace. These units are delivered by professionals with a wealth of experience in both industry and academia in their specialist subject areas. In addition to a range of business related units, there are a number of HE study skills units that will equip the learner with the tools required to study at the higher levels that a degree programme demands.

You will learn about how businesses work. You will be introduced to the marketing and people functions. Furthermore, you will also explore how business finance and operations work, and understand the impact of external influences. Through studying business, you will develop transferable skills that will prepare you for studying at university or moving into the world of work. You will become skilled in making decisions, solving problems, applying numerical skills (including understanding finance and working with data) and understanding the business environment.
