This study programme is designed for 16 to 19 year olds (aged 19 to 24 for students with an Education, Health and Care Plan).

All courses take place on our Sixth Form Campus, therefore any applicants aged 25+ or over who do not have an Education, Health and Care Plan may be required to complete a DBS check as part of the conditional offer to West Suffolk College. The cost to the applicant for a DBS is £30.00 and the DBS check can be completed through the college.

About the course

The Level 2 Business programme aims to inspire and enthuse learners to consider a career in the Business sector, allowing learners to gain a broad knowledge and understanding of an array of business topics. The programme also broadens the learners' understanding of the many business careers available, and the attributes that they will need in order to be successful in the world of business.

 

This is a one-year study programme involving the study of key business units, including Introduction to Marketing, Finance for Business, Promoting a Brand, Introducing Law and Consumer Rights, Visual merchandising in Retail Business, Enterprise in the Business World, Working in Business Teams, Procurement and Supply and Branding.

 

This qualification provides a good foundation for learners in post-16 education. It provides a suitable pathway for further study within the department supporting progression to a more specialised level 3 Business course.  

 

The level 2 business course is sponsored by Javelin in Bury St Edmunds, an award-winning clothing Boutique in Bury St Edmunds. Javelin provides students with a visual merchandising master class and offer work related experience. 

 

 

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs Grade D (3) or above, including maths or English at Grade D (3). However, this course offers flexibility on the outcome of a personal interview and selection process with the curriculum staff.

Qualifications

Upon successful completion of this course, you will achieve a Level 2 Extended Certificate in Business. You will also have the chance to study two additional qualifications, a Level 3 Emergency First Aid in the Workplace and a Certificate in World Host Customer Services.

What you'll learn (core modules)

The assessment approach allows learners to receive feedback on their progress throughout the course as they provide evidence towards the grading criteria. Evidence for assessment may be generated through a range of diverse activities including assignment and project work.

Learners have timetabled, supervised, tutored learning support and directed study sessions to enable assignment tasks to be completed in college. Learners should also be prepared to study at home for approximately 5 hours a week. The units you will study on this course are Marketing, Finance, Visual Merchandising, Law and Consumer Rights, Branding, Business Online, Business Enterprise, Teamwork in Business, Procurement and Supply and Sustainability in the Business Workplace.

How will I be assessed?

Students are assessed continuously throughout the Study Programme.  A variety of assessment methods are used which can also be adapted if required to meet individual student needs. 

Where is the course delivered? (facilities/classrooms)

The Study Programme is delivered at the main site on Out Risbygate in Bury St. Edmunds.

Where will the course take me?

This course provides a route to employment into the many diverse areas of business. These could include roles in specialist areas such as marketing, finance, customer service or human resources in large organisations or a more generic role in a small local business.

On successful completion learners can progress to employment, Apprenticeships and/or continue their study in the same, or a related vocational area.

Will I need any materials or equipment?

Course textbook, revision guide and workbook, laptop, stationery.

The cost for trips and books for the year is approx. £100
