This 2 day Introduction to Supervisory Skills and Team Leader Development course is a solid foundation for those wishing to identify and attain the skills for supervising others , understand and apply relevant theories and consider how to effectively make the transition from team member to team leader.
The course will run at West Suffolk College with dates to be confirmed or can be run as a bespoke programme for groups and companies.

The course would follow the below programme:
Day 1
- The Role of the Supervisor
Clarify the roles and responsibilities of a supervisor / team leader
Effectively manage the transition from team member to team leader, identify barriers (personal and external) and how to overcome these
- Introduction to Leadership Theories
Identify the difference between managing and leading
Analyse different leadership styles and own preferences
Recognise how to lead people using an appropriate leadership style
Identify improvements to own use of the different styles
- Interpersonal Skills
Examine different behaviours and communication styles, including self assessment
Principles of Positive Influencing Behaviours
Behaviour Iceberg, why we react as we do
Tools to make an assertive approach
Introduction to different approaches in handling conflict
Day 2
- Motivation
Examine various motivation theories and how it applies to individuals and teams in the workplace
Identify the factors that influence high performance within their teams
Create a balance between management o f task, team & individual
Applying the performance management process
Setting performance objectives for team and individual, monitoring progress and approaches for keeping people on track.
- Planning and Time Management
Our perceptions of time, internal and external barriers and how to overcome
Circle of Concern and Influence
Managing time stealers and distractions
Prioritisation and planning the day / week to optimise how much we achieve
How to delegate successfully, why we hold onto tasks and how to overcome these.
- Framework to make effective decisions and how to communicate the decision for best results
This highly interactive workshop includes a combination of direct teaching, practical activities, self assessment, and workplace scenarios to analyse. Delegates will put together an individual action plan to implement.
