About the course
The City & Guilds CILEx Level 2 Award in Legal Studies is aimed at students wanting to develop an understanding of law and the legal environment. You will learn about our legal system, how law is recorded, how to find the law and the practical application of it. You will also study Criminal Law where you will gain knowledge of various offences such as murder, manslaughter, non fatal offences. The course will also offer the student the opportunity to study landmark cases which have helped to shape our legal system.
This course is suitable for anyone with an interest in Law and who wants to gain a greater understanding of the English Legal System.
A good standard of literacy skills. Students would be required to undertake approximately 2.5 hours independent study per week.

What you'll learn (core modules)
To achieve Level 2 Award in Legal Studies students will study 2 units:
1. The Legal Environment (Mandatory unit) - The aim of this unit is to enable the learner to develop a basic knowledge of how laws are made and by whom, and to gain an overview of how the legal system operates in relation to both civil and criminal matters.
2. Principals of Criminal Liability - the aim of this unit is to enable the candidate to gain an understanding of the principles of criminal law. Students will develop the necessary knowledge and skills to be able to identify the constituent parts of a crime and the basis of criminal culpability.
