About the course
This course is suitable for learners who are seeking a career in the construction industry, predominantly bricklaying. The course covers a wide range of practical skills and an underpinning theory knowledge of the basics of bricklaying. It also covers Health and Safety and six other units whilst including a basic knowledge and understanding of the other trades associated with the construction industry.
Minimum GCSEs grade D in mathematics and English are preferred. It is expected that the applicant will have a genuine interest in the construction industry and some experience of bricklaying and each applicant will be required to attend an interview to ascertain his/her suitability for the course .

What you'll learn (core modules)
All units have multiple choice tests. There is also a multiple choice final exam and four practical assessments. To achieve the full award learners need to achieve a pass in all these elements. Any student aged 16 to 19 who does not hold a GCSE A* to C (9 to 4 on the new grading structure) or equivalent qualifications in Maths and English by age 16 will need to continue to study these subjects in each academic year. Where will the course take me?
After successful completion of this course learners can progress onto a City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in the following year. Learners in employment can also enrol onto a Modern Apprenticeship programme which also includes an NVQ qualification.
Will I need any materials or equipment?
While all tools and materials are supplied for the practical work in our modern workshops. Students will need to provide their own Safety boots (Safety footwear must be worn in the workshops at all times) Overalls, gloves a minimum 3m tape measure, pencils and pens. Normal Classroom equipment. Pens, pencils, pencil sharper and Eraser, calculator, Mathematical maths set, A4 ring binder and A4 writing paper. Course text book, details given in induction.
