About the course
A course suitable for learners who wish to seek a career in the Carpentry and Joinery industries or for people already employed in the industry who need to achieve a qualification in Carpentry. This course covers all the basic hand skills needed to get a start in this profession.
The course lasts for 34 weeks 3 hours per week.
Entry requirements
No formal qualifications are required for this course but it is expected in the first instance that the applicant will have a genuine interest in the construction industry and each applicant will be required to attend an interview to ascertain his/her suitability.
Qualifications
The Award in Construction skills @ Level 1 (90 hours) (6219-04), learners must achieve a minimum of 9 credits, 3 mandatory credits ( Introduction to Health & Safety in Construction) and then a minimum of 6 credits from the optional units.

What you'll learn (core modules)
Learners will be taught by professional tutors who are regularly professionally updated in construction techniques, in a trade specific workshop in The Milburn Centre. The course is only practical teaching, using the latest techniques and equipment. This programme will run one evening a week.
How will I be assessed?
Only practical task need to be completed.
Where will this course take me?
Certificate in Construction Skills at Level 1 - 150 hours
If you have progressed onto the Certificate from the Award, you will only pay the difference = £175 or free for concessions.
Tuesday evening 6-9pm
To achieve the Level 1 Certificate in Construction Skills (6219-05), learners must achieve a minimum of 15 credits, 3 credits from the mandatory unit and a minimum of 12 credits from the optional units. If you progress onto the Certificate from the Award, you would only need a further 6 credits from the optional units NOT the full 12 credits.
