This study programme is designed for 16 to 19 year olds (aged 19 to 24 for students with an Education, Health and Care Plan).

All courses take place on our Sixth Form Campus, therefore any applicants aged 25+ or over who do not have an Education, Health and Care Plan may be required to complete a DBS check as part of the conditional offer to West Suffolk College. The cost to the applicant for a DBS is £30.00 and the DBS check can be completed through the college.

West Suffolk College is working in partnership with Anglian Water to offer a level 2 construction course at our Milburn Centre Construction Campus. 
The course will provide students with the skills and knowledge, hands on learning and real work experience, to make them work ready for a highly skilled and rewarding career with Anglian Water and their partner companies.
Students will work and learn alongside College tutors as well as experienced employees from Anglian Water and their partner companies to achieve a City & Guilds L2 General Construction Certificate.
Students will be expected to attend college for three days a week, plus a work placement with one of the alliance companies, for a minimum of five days each year.
Students will have the opportunity to try the career, while studying, and will be guaranteed a job interview with Anglian Water and their Partner Companies for a full time apprenticeship, once they have completed and achieved their studies.
Anglian Water's five alliances have been created to deliver investment worth up to £9 billion of work over 15 years. Working together they deliver every kind of investment ranging from building large new water treatment works, to repairing small leaks and connecting new properties to the network.

Entry requirements

You will require 4 GCSEs at level 3 or above including Maths & English.

17 years old or above, upon completion of the course. If successful, part of the AW apprenticeship includes the provision of a vehicle, therefor a full driving licence will be essential.
You will have to attend an interview, to help ensure the course is the the right course for you.

Qualifications

Level 2 City & Guilds Certificate in General Construction Operations.

What you'll learn (core modules)

This course has been designed working with Anglian Water's five alliances with the specific aim of enabling you to work for one of the Alliance companies. On successful completion of Level 2, candidates will be guaranteed an interview with one of the Anglian Water's Alliance partners to join their apprenticeship programme.

 

The majority of Level 2 study will be held at the Milburn Campus, delivered by college tutors through practical and theory based sessions. In addition to this, industry specialists from the Alliances will contribute to the learning programme.

An important element of the course is the work placement component, which will be with one or more of the Alliance's partner companies, where you will gain valuable work experience.

The course content consists of the units below:

  • Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction
  • Principles of Building Construction Information and Communication
  • Construction Site Protection Barriers
  • Lay Domestic Drainage
  • Construct Foundations, Slabs and Paths in Concrete
