About the course
This course is a VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Massage Therapy. The qualification has been specifically design to develop your practical skills in Swedish body massage techniques. This intensive paced part-time programme of study for Body Massage is suitable for students who have, or are working towards a level 3 Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology qualification.
Body Massage is a holistic treatment involving massage movements and pressure techniques which are applied to the whole body, face and scalp. These movements stimulate or relaxes the body, helping the body's systems to function and maintain a good state of health.
The underpinning knowledge in this qualification will assist you with how to monitor and maintain health and safety practices in a salon environment, how to promote client care and communications in beauty related industries, how to maintain personal health and wellbeing as well as exploring the origins of massage and the principles of complementary and alternative medicine. You will also develop an underpinning knowledge and understanding of the practical skills learned throughout this qualification.
All students will expected to attend College three hours a week on an evening and are required to complete course work and research in their own time. It is compulsory for all students to complete practical and written case studies, before they can gain the qualification and build a portfolio of evidence.
Entry requirements
All applicants need to have successfully completed or are working towards the Diploma in Anatomy and Physiology Level 3. To apply for the course, please can you complete an online application form. What you'll learn (core modules)
Business Practice for complementary therapies, Health, Safety and Hygiene for complementary therapies, Knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for complementary therapies. Modules include: Practical Body Massage - Definition of Massage Movements, Adaptation of the Massage Routine, History of Massage and Business Practice.
How will I be assessed?
Your practical skills and theory knowledge will have continuous assessment throughout the programme to help with your development. A portfolio with your written case study evidence and course work module theory assignments will be submitted at the end of the programme and graded. All elements must be completed and achieved in order to achieve a full qualification. Final practical assessment is conducted to demonstrate your massage skills. Your tutor will graded you and provide you with feedback.

On successful completion, learners can progress on to the Diploma in Reflexology, which is offered by West Suffolk College.

If you need help with funding
Any student over the age of 19 will need to pay full costs unless they are in receipt of benefits, the Student Welfare department will be able to help you with this application.
